Argo lining up its 5-specimen autonomous

Named after the ship that carried Theseus to Crete, Argo was our robot for the 2024 Australian National Championship. It was a complete redesign, rebuild and reprogram of our Regionals robot, delivered in more or less four weeks.

Australia’s FTC season is historically short, wrapping up before the new year arrives. With exams finished, those four weeks were spent in our team captain’s basement, members taking shifts so work on the robot could continue around the clock.

Argo could extend horizontally close to a metre and vertically a metre in the air. Its signature feature was the passthrough deposit, which used linear rails to move the claw straight through the robot. Days before the competition, it landed the first 5-specimen autonomous in Australia.

At Nationals, Argo won 5 of its 6 qualification matches to rank 4th of 42, finishing as 3rd Place Alliance Captain. Subsequently being awarded the prestigious Inspire 3 award sent Theseus through to the FIRST World Championship in Houston.
